A Letter from Rev.
Joseph K. Kalladan, Pastor
Sunday Bulletin - February 24,
2008
Dear Parishioner,
Last week I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Sr.
Margaret, a member of the Congregation of the Daughters of
St. Paul
working in San Antonio.
They are in the forefront in the
U.S. with
regard to Media Communication and its impact on society. She
is on mission to ascertain the use of mass media
communication in parishes, interviewing area pastors and
other parish groups. After meeting with me, she also met
with the Parish Evangelization Committee and had a wealth of
information to share with us. Let me summarize a few salient
points of her sharing. Mass media cuts across culture. Its
speed and immediacy providing a variety of products,
services and ideas has a very pervasive impact on everyone.
Because of its strong sensory appeal, it minimizes the text
based church teachings and does a great disservice to
formation of conscience and faith. Due to its diabolical
character, people are lead to relativism and subjectivism
and the church is often marginalized. With particular
reference to the teens in America,
she stated that 93% of teens go online and 55% of them post
personal information and of these 79% post their photos and
over 60% have been personally contacted. The world we live
in today is changing so rapidly and the impact on the modern
means of communication is far reaching.
It is important for us to be aware of all this and
consider what we can do to bring the message of Christ in
these changing times. Jesus Christ has entrusted the Good
News of the Gospel to live and to spread around us. Let us
ask ourselves: “What can I do today in response to God’s
call?
Fr. K.K.
