A Letter from Rev.
Joseph K. Kalladan, Pastor
Sunday Bulletin - February 3,
2008
Dear
Parishioner,
Whenever I read or hear the
inspired words that St. Paul pours out through his letters,
I can see the heart of that man totally dedicated to God
and how the Lord has been using him as His chosen instrument
to inspire us. The exciting pilgrimage that was undertaken
recently: "On the Footsteps of St. Paul" did indeed confirm,
beyond any doubt whatsoever, what a man of God he truly was.
In his letters he speaks of the many gifts that the Holy
Spirit lavishes on those who are open to His Spirit. It is
up to each of us how we allow God's Spirit to mold and form
us. For example, writing to the Romans (8:27) he states:
"And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention
of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones
according to God's will."
Yes, allowing the Lord to lead and guide
us is the key. Jesus was lead by God's Spirit into the
desert to prepare Himself for His forth-coming ministry of
saving the world. Mary allowed herself to be a
true instrument of God: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be
it done to me according to your word." Saul, after the
encounter with the Risen Christ on the way to Damascus, let
himself be in God's Hands totally and completely. The lives
of all the Saints bear eloquent testimony to this reality.
Communication with God through heartfelt prayer is the key
to being His instrument. We all know the simple
definition of prayer: "Conversation with God". Now our
everyday conversations are so varied and different: lively,
casual, heart-felt, loving, harsh, challenging,
business-like, etc. So too, our conversations with God can
take on varied forms depending on where and who we are in
our relationship with Him. Our Parish is blessed
with different prayer groups that meet practically every day
of the week. I feel the Holy Spirit is moving St. Thomas
Aquinas Church to begin a NEW PRAYER GROUP - THE
CHARISMATIC. St. Paul speaks of the many gifts of the
Spirit. We are all gifted differently and to use these gifts
is what God wants us to do. This form of prayer is one way
of using God's gift.
On Saturday, February 9th, STA
Charismatic Prayer group will begin with Holy Mass at 7:00
PM. STA is not at all unfamiliar with Charismatic
Prayer as our Church Community started more as a Charismatic
group. For many years it was known as 'The Charismatic
Church'
Let us pray that this Charismatic Prayer
experience will help many of you to open yourselves more to
God's manifold graces and gifts that He lavishes on us.
Prayerfully,
Fr. K.K.
