Blood Drive
Give the gift of
life. Give whole blood or platelets when the parish has a
drive. Help to cover the parish and family and friends who
cannot give. Volunteers are also needed to stand outside the
church to sign up donors, and to call the phone list to
remind donors of their appointments.
Catholic Daughters
of the Americas
Court Aquinas No.
2266 has three purposes: to preserve church teaching, to do
charitable works, and to advance the spiritual and
intellectual development of Catholic womanhood. To achieve
these purposes, CDA combats the evils of abortion and
euthanasia, performs corporal and spiritual works of mercy,
fights legislation in direct contradiction to Catholic
belief, supports priests and seminarians, and promotes
programs for youth. We are united in charity to carry out
Christ’s mission on earth in an environment of prayer and
sisterly support, to benefit the parish, the community and
the nation. A member must be a woman 18 years or older and a
practicing Catholic. Come to a meeting on the second Monday
of the month (except December and April) at 7:30 p.m. in the
Aquinas Center.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of
Columbus Council 7382 was created to be the right arm of the
parish. We are actively involved in the life of the parish
with many activities such as pancake breakfasts, the parish
Christmas party, Easter egg hunt, and Halloween party for
the children. It also holds the New Year’s Eve dance and
caters such events as the feast day dinner and funfests. The
council is an active participant in the annual Clergy Night
sponsored by the Galveston - Houston Chapter of which it is
a member. This council is an active supporter of Interfaith
Charities, collaboration with the Jewish men’s organization
B’nai Brith. The council meets on the first, third, and
fifth Mondays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in Aldridge Hall.
The Knights of Columbus is open to any male 18 years and
older who is a practicing Catholic.
Columbian Squires
Circle 3028
This youth
program is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council
7382. It seeks to train young men in “the art of
leadership.” It is open to young men ages 10-17. The young
men conduct their own meetings, handle their finances, and
offer assistance to any of the church ministries whenever
manpower is necessary. Squires meet once a month and have at
least one official entertainment activity and one service
activity every month.
Legion of Mary
The main purpose
of the Legion of Mary, the largest apostolic organization of
the Lay People in the Catholic Church, is to give glory to
God through the holiness of its members, developed by prayer
and active cooperation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The
Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare
of each individual. Personal sanctification is sought by
attempting to imitate Mary in her virtues of Faith, Charity
and Humility. The Legion spreads devotion to Mary, primarily
by encouraging the recitation of the Rosary. (Mary’s request
at Fatima.) The members perform weekly apostolic work. The
New Commandment of God comes alive through the prayers and
active works of the Legion. Members meet in Aquinas Center
Room C on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.
Men’s Retreat
The Men’s Retreat
is held annually at Holy Name Retreat Center in Houston. The
Passionist Priests conduct the retreat which is open to all
men of the parish.
Women’s Retreat
This is a retreat
for women, developed by women under the guidance of the Holy
Spirit. The retreat team consists of women parishioners who
meet for prayer and discernment on the theme, presentations,
music and environment. Each year women have the opportunity
for a unique spiritual experience of God’s love, healing and
renewal. The Women’s Retreat has been in existence for
almost 20 years and occurs during the season of Lent or
Easter.
Office Volunteers
The office is in
need of volunteers to perform clerical tasks such as bulk
mail-outs, answering phones, copying, stuffing bulletins,
etc. Volunteers are needed during office hours and evenings.
Parish Work Day
Workers are
needed for parish work days! Work days are scheduled each
year according to the needs of the parish. Hours are
flexible. They are generally at the church from 8:00 a.m.
until 2:00 p.m. Feel free to come when you can, and leave
when you need to. The work includes everything from
providing food and refreshments to the workers, to
maintenance work. Workers of every skill level are
encouraged to come. This is a wonderful opportunity to get
to know fellow parishioners and to serve the Body of Christ
here at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Parishioners From
Africa
Parishioners are
invited to share their African cultural heritage with other
families in the parish. PFA welcomes all who are interested
to our meetings the first Sunday of the month after the
11:30 a.m. Mass.
Phone Committee
Anyone willing to
assist in calling fellow parishioners to remind them of
various opportunities for service, fun, and involvement is
invited to join this ministry.
Sewing Baptismal
Vestments
This ministry
creates and sews bibs for the babies and stoles for the
children who are being baptized at St. Thomas Aquinas. It is
not necessary to be an experienced seamstress to participate
in this ministry.
Sewing Liturgical
Vestments
Seamstresses
provide skills to produce altar server robes, priest’s albs,
chasubles, stoles, and altar covers. Is God calling you?
Social Events
Committee
The Social Events
committee plans and hosts mostly three parish-wide special
events each year: the St. Thomas Aquinas Feast Day Dinner,
the Family Fun-Fest, and the Seder Meal. More volunteers are
always needed.
STARS - St. Thomas
Aquinas Renewed Seniors
An organization
of St. Thomas Aquinas parishioners who have reached the
minimum age of 50 years, this ministry sponsors and arranges
various social and religious activities including travel,
educational and fun gatherings, potluck meals and prayer
retreats. Dedicated to the overall wellbeing of its members,
the STARS always welcome new members. STARS meet every third
Sunday at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and 6:30 p.m. for the meeting
in Aldridge Hall. Dues are only $14 annually.
