Nature and Purpose:
As defined in the “Diocesan Norms for Parish Pastoral Councils”, the nature and purpose of the Saint Thomas Aquinas (STA) Parish Pastoral Council are as follows:
· To be a representative body of the faithful whose focus is on the whole community – its beliefs, its hopes, its joys, its needs, its sorrows, its concerns, its gifts and its pursuit of the mission of the Church
· To provide a means for uniting the parish community in expressing its collective wisdom concerning pastoral plans and activities
· To read and reflect the “sign-of the-times” to those planning or implementing pastoral activities in the parish
· To respond to the pastor’s call and questions, and offer the best consultation possible
· To reflect and consider pastoral issues for the common good and for the future
· To understand, to reflect carefully and prayerfully, and to seek consensus
The Pastoral Council possesses a consultative vote only and is governed by norms determined by the Archdiocesan Bishop.
Mission Statement:
As the representative body of our parish, and in line with the Archdiocesan Norms, we, the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, aspire to offer our pastor the best consultative advice by prayerfully and carefully reflecting and understanding pastoral issues affecting our parish, and expressing our collective wisdom to unite our parish community as one family in pursuit of the mission of the church, which is to spread the good news of the Lord, and strive for personal sanctification of souls, particularly through the celebration of the sacraments.
